Here is a late 40s L.W. Foster 55J14 early G-1 jacket. The goatskin is strong and intact, with some minor markings. If I recall, label has been professionally replaced. Note a previous owner tried to subdue the USN stenciling on the underside of the collar.
The jacket fits like a very trim 40, but I think it would better suit a size 38, or if you like your jackets on the roomier side, perhaps smaller. I have a 39ish chest and it is TRIM in the body but alright in the shoulders. Note the approximate measurements. The sleeves were inherently difficult to measure because the shoulder seam has a very interesting placement and is probably a feature of this contract. I would imagine this jacket working best on someone with regular to shorter arm length. 27" sleeves are my magic number and this jacket's sleeves are about 2.5 inches short on me. 23" sounds awfully short but it's a tricky measure, so I feel they are in reality longer.
Pit to pit front: 20.5
Sleeve length (sleeves measured from area pictured with the measuring tape, down sleeve to end of knit): a little over 23
Length (rear collar seam to end of knit): 24.5ish
Shoulders: 18
I will sell this for $300 plus shipping, or a trade for something in a 40-42 size. It's a cool historical item!
Best,
Nick
